STEAM Startups

Are you curious about the intersection between technology, problem solving, and entrepreneurship? STEAM Startups is a great one-week program to explore
STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) in
a collaborative, fun atmosphere. Campers will learn how companies leverage innovation and design to build new products. Through hands-on activities, campers work in small teams to develop their own STEAM-based startup idea. The STEAM Startups program culminates with a
Team Pitch Competition where campers present their startup ideas to a panel of family and friends.

Building! Flying! Racing! Come join us for DRONE Zone where campers operate a selection of drones through various courses. Each camper has the opportunity to build and fly a drone, learn aviation terms & concepts, and map out & design their own courses. DRONE Zone culminates in races with each other through a course mapped out by campers! We combine STEM building challenges, 3D planning and design, and drone navigation into one fun, interactive and entertaining class!

GAME Wizards

GAME Wizards have their hands full of creative challenges as they navigate the world of video game
design. Each camper picks a programming language that best suits their ability and interest. Whether it is Bloxels, Alice, Scratch, Code Academy, or Kodu, we have a curriculum designed to push each camper to create playable, complex and fun video games. Campers explore the use of tinkercad allowing them to plan a 3D image, print it using our 3D printers, and learn about how these machines work.

ART Adventure

Unleash your child’s creativity this summer! This class provides campers an exciting immersion in visual art practice. Daily projects include a deep dive into drawing, painting, printmaking, and textile arts.
Campers will also discuss famous works of art and learn to apply techniques that well-known artists have used in order to strengthen their own fundamental artistic skills.

Love superheroes? Enjoy watching anime? Want to learn how to draw them? Then we have the perfect
class for you! In Creative Comics class, children will explore the methods, techniques, and procedures which are used in the creation of comic strips and comic
books. The focus is on the basic principles of visual storytelling and drawing techniques that relate to the
cartoon art form. Campers explore the process of creating characters and comics, from initial idea to a
completed page. The goal is for each camper to complete a comic strip by the end of the mini-camp.

CLAY and Glaze

Join us for an artistic adventure in our light and airy ceramic studio sure to inspire your camper’s creative
talents! Campers create collections of work along specific aesthetic themes of their choosing. They
experiment with a variety of surface treatments, including the application of glazes, low relief, and three-dimensional decoration to distinguish their work. While beginners are exposed to a range of clay techniques, advanced campers can work to expand their portfolios. Your camper will bring home heirloom
treasures to be enjoyed for years to come.

Looking to play basketball and improve your skills? Our campers practice and hone their skills and
techniques thorough daily lessons. The class structure allows campers to work on passing, shooting, dribbling
and basketball IQ. Each class ends with a 5 on 5 basketball game where the campers will get the opportunity to put all of their skills together and
showcase their basketball moves and skills.

Soccer is a sport played by over 265 million people! Our goal is to make soccer fun for campers while also
developing their soccer skills. Campers of all ability levels will be pushed to be their very best through
interactive drills. Campers can strengthen their speed, agility, dribbling, passing, shielding, tackling, shooting, and trapping skills. We differentiate each
drill to push campers to be their very best and end each lesson with a soccer game.

FLOOR Hockey

Remember when the Washington Capitals won the Stanley Cup? Come and play floor hockey at Green Acres Camp and be the next Ovechkin! The class is organized so campers have the opportunity to both develop their skills and participate in a tournament. The players practice shooting, passing and stick handling each day through fun and interactive drills. We then put all of those drills to the test in a mini-tournament at the end of the week.
