Thanks to widely-popularized educational and neuroscientific research, it seems like everyone is (finally!) talking about progressive education! We all want our children to be engaged citizens, stewards of the earth, joyful learners, and innovative thinkers—a radical idea when Green Acres School championed it in the 1930s. Now we know that cultivating this type of scholarship and leadership is more essential than ever—and Green Acres is proud to be among the original progressive schools in the nation.
On Sunday, October 28 from 1:30-3:30 PM, families are invited to discover what authentic progressive education looks like at Green Acres School’s “Hands-On, Not Heads-Down!” Discovery Day. The afternoon will showcase all that progressive education has to offer through a variety of challenging, engaging, and fun activities. Learn more here.
There's something for everyone at Discovery Day and this event is not to be missed. Current and prospective families are welcome, as well as curious community members! RSVP to Judy: email@example.com.
There are many ways to stay involved with the Green Acres community. Check out the opportunities below and contact Aimee Wadeson '92, Director of Alumni Relations, at 301.881.4100 or at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Alumni Advisory Council
The Alumni Advisory Council meets three times per year. The council works to strategically plan ways to keep alumni connected to Green Acres. From reaching out to fellow alums, to writing notes and making calls for the Annual Fund, to planning events, the Alumni Advisory Council supports the efforts of the Alumni Office and of the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Alumni Annual Fund
Each year Green Acres School relies on Annual Giving income to provide approximately 5% of our operating budget. Green Acres calls upon this remarkable community to provide the difference between tuition revenue and the actual cost of educating a student. Alumni volunteers get involved by helping to encourage fellow alumni to participate in the fund. To volunteer to write notes or make calls please contact email@example.com.
You can also help by making your own gift to the Annual Fund by clicking here. Gifts of any amount are appreciated.
Alumni Class Representatives
Interested in catching up with former classmates? The Alumni Office always welcomes help with tracking down current contact information and spreading the news about reunions and other important events.
Share Your Knowledge and Experience
Nothing shows how accomplished our alumni are better than when they come back to campus to share their knowledge and experience with the community. Whether speaking on a panel at a Corporation Meeting, meeting with middle school students with one's a cappella group from college, presenting at the Day of Action, or teaching a lesson related to the students' curriculum, alumni involvement in the classroom and with parents is extremely valued.
Service Learning continues to be an integral part of the Green Acres curriculum. If you know of service learning opportunities for current students, please get in touch with the Alumni Office.
Come by for a Visit
Feel a little nostalgic? Miss playing hockey in the gym or swinging on the red gate? Have you seen the Middle School Building or all the other changes to campus? Come by for a visit! As an alum, you are always welcome.
