Thanks to widely-popularized educational and neuroscientific research, it seems like everyone is (finally!) talking about progressive education! We all want our children to be engaged citizens, stewards of the earth, joyful learners, and innovative thinkers—a radical idea when Green Acres School championed it in the 1930s. Now we know that cultivating this type of scholarship and leadership is more essential than ever—and Green Acres is proud to be among the original progressive schools in the nation.
On Sunday, October 28 from 1:30-3:30 PM, families are invited to discover what authentic progressive education looks like at Green Acres School’s “Hands-On, Not Heads-Down!” Discovery Day. The afternoon will showcase all that progressive education has to offer through a variety of challenging, engaging, and fun activities. Learn more here.
There's something for everyone at Discovery Day and this event is not to be missed. Current and prospective families are welcome, as well as curious community members! RSVP to Judy: email@example.com.
After School Programs
Extended Day Program
Our Extended Day Program (EDP) operates Monday-Friday from the end of the school day until 6:00 PM. EDP offers students of all ages a rich and well-staffed program with a strong community feel. Younger children enjoy a home-like, project-based experience with abundant opportunity for outdoor play. Older students have supervised time to complete their homework as well as relaxed, open-ended time both indoors and out. The benefits of our Extended Day Program include:
- a comfortable, safe, fun environment for students after school
- a nutritious snack
- an environment for study and homework, with adult guidance and assistance
- use of the gym, Computer Labs, Art Room, teaching kitchen, all playground areas, library, and various classrooms for EDP activities
- an opportunity for students to interact, play and develop relationships across age groups
After-School Enrichment Program
The After-School Enrichment Program offers students in Grades 1 through 8 a variety of enjoyable activities that are based on the interests of our students as well as our teachers. Enrichment classes generally are scheduled in eight-week sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays. They begin at 3:15 PM and end at 4:30 PM. Classes vary in content throughout the year. Popular choices have included drama, studio arts, hands-on science, cooking, chess, karate, computers, dance, and handbells. After-School Enrichment fees vary by class and are not included in the Extended Day tuition.
