Transportation

The entire Green Acres School community works together to ensure smooth, timely, and safe transportation to and from our school, while minimizing the impact of school-related traffic on our neighborhood street.

At each day’s dismissal, students are required to leave the school on a regular school bus or in a carpool, or to attend one of our on-site Extended Day activities.

Bus Transportation

Green Acres offers bus service for students who live within a reasonable distance from the school. The school and its contractors operate all buses with maximum concern for the safety and comfort of the students. Approximately 35% of our students take advantage of the bus service.

The Head of School and the Transportation Director design the routes in consultation with the contracted bus companies. To keep rides as short and efficient as possible, we use community stops on all routes. We try to accommodate as many families as possible, but cannot promise specific stop locations. In some cases, parents drive or have a student ride public transportation to a central location.

Carpool Policy

In an effort to be conscious of air quality and the zoning requirements imposed by the Montgomery County Board of Appeals, the School Board has implemented the following policy:

  • At each day’s dismissal, students are required to leave the school on a regular school bus or in a carpool, or to attend one of our on-site Extended Day activities.
  • We encourage families to plan and arrange carpools whenever possible. The rationale behind our carpooling policy is threefold:
    • Carpooling reduces traffic driving through our residential neighborhood. Area zoning requires that we make every effort to minimize the number of Green Acres cars using Danville Drive.
    • Carpooling creates a shorter line of cars picking up students, and helps dismissal conclude more quickly. Among other benefits, this enables families to meet after-school appointments and activities.
    • Carpooling reduces air pollution, and your involvement helps to reduce the carbon footprint of the Green Acres community.
