Athletics

Soccer teammates gather in a huddle

Our fields and gym are a great place to practice sports—and important life skills.

Team-Oriented Philosophy

The Green Acres athletic program is open to all students in 5th–8th grades. Our "no-cut" policy is intended to give our athletes an introduction to both teamwork and the true meaning of sportsmanship. Our goal is for Green Acres athletes to step onto the field or court with the ideal of making the players around them better. Once they leave Green Acres, many of our athletes go on to participate in sports in high school and college. They are routinely recognized by their peers and coaches as leaders on and off the playing field.

League

Green Acres is a member of the Capital Athletic Conference, a league made up of Pre-K to 8th grade schools in the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area.

Teams

Our program offers students an opportunity to participate fully on a number of teams, including soccer, cross country, basketball, and track and field. At least 80% of our Middle Schoolers participate regularly in at least two sports during their time at Green Acres.

Annual Alumni Cross Country Classic

Our students designed, built, and maintain Green Acres' very own one-mile cross country course ("The Racks"), which traverses the school's 15-acre campus. Once a year, we recognize the accomplishments of our alumni who have gone on to compete successfully in athletics at the college and/or professional levels. After the race, our recognized alum shares his/her/their experiences with our 4th–8th graders—always underscoring how athletics complemented and enhanced their academic endeavors and lifelong goals.
