The Green Acres library came back to life this spring! After learning from home for many months, eager and curious students brought long-missed energy and voices to the library via classes and book clubs, research and writing projects, discussions of social justice and diversity, and Model UN and yearbook preparation. Third graders also were enthusiastic library “assistants”!
As the school year draws to a close, we already are excited about sharing our newest books with students in September. Annie Groat in the Advancement Office has played a special role in helping to enhance our STEAM collection, which supports classes, thematic units, and student interests across divisions. Felicity Brown P'29, '31 and Sarah Chambers P'29 have provided invaluable volunteer assistance all spring by processing new acquisitions and taking on other tasks. (The library needs more volunteers! Can you devote one hour or more each week next school year?)
As a reminder, our library does not circulate books during the summer. The local public libraries are open, either for contactless pick-up or for in-person browsing and checkout of print books, ebooks, audiobooks, and other materials.
The “Browse” interface in the Green Acres online library catalog displays the covers of the 50 books added most recently to our library collection so that you can see what our focus has been. We also describe older recommended books in grade-specific lists on the school website.
Check in periodically at https://socialjusticebooks.org/ and https://www.politics-prose.com/children-teens for book reviews and recommendations. Browse the exceptional, beautifully displayed collections at any Politics and Prose bookstore, and take advantage of their 20% off Summer Member Sale from June 11–13 (see updated terms of membership here).
For the summer, you may want to consider an Audible Premium Plus free trial. Keep the audio books coming all summer long!
We hope that you have a wonderful summer filled with sunshine and books. We can't wait to welcome you back to the library in the fall!
