I am delighted to announce that Rebecca Geary will be our next Head of School, starting July 1, 2020.

Rebecca was the unanimous choice of the Head of School Search Committee and of the Board of Trustees to serve as our next leader.

To all of you who participated in the process, thank you. Your involvement and feedback were invaluable. Thank you to the Search Committee, and in particular, to Co-Chairs Sue Choi and Alyssa Denzer for guiding such a thorough and demanding undertaking with unmatched skill, energy, and diplomacy. See below for a letter from Rebecca to the Green Acres community.

Best,

Rebecca Geary

Dear Green Acres Community,

Green Acres School has held a special place for me, since over a decade ago when a former Green Acres teacher-parent spoke of her daughters’ transformative growth as result of the School’s talented educators.

My own educational journey in Maryland began at Rock Creek Forest Elementary—then fast forward to Northwood High School and the University of Maryland, College Park. I am eager to learn what has changed since I last lived here (besides traffic with more developed communities and spaces) and to reconnect with the greater communities and educators throughout the area.

I’ve seen evidence of your passion, commitment and a willingness to work together to find the best path forward that continues the legacy of quality education, centered on the whole child. I appreciate the leadership, care, and stewardship that Neal has shown in building and holding a school community that embodies such strength and determination to transform the lives of our youth.

Finally, I’m excited to lead a strategic planning process that engages the voices and perspectives of Green Acres past and present and create a vision for a bright future. Green Acres School is a precious gem, as are the community members who make it special. I look forward to meeting each of you, whether at an upcoming event, during drop-off time, in the classroom, or in the greater community. Thank you for including me in such a beautiful place that I will soon be calling “home.”

In peace and gratitude,
