Summary description:

Green Acres School is seeking a full-time director of enrollment. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who sees the transition from admission to enrollment work similar to that of an entrepreneurial venture, is eager to try new ideas, will lean heavily on data usage, and will explore a range of strategies, including social media marketing, to tell the Green Acres story in an active and exciting way. More specifically, the director of enrollment will orchestrate and execute the admission process to attract and retain families and work with the director of advancement and director of communications and marketing in support of their programs. The person will navigate between the practical work of each admission season and implementing the longer-term strategic vision.

Middle School Science & Math Teacher

Summary description:

Green Acres School is seeking a teacher of science for 5th and 6th grade students and 7th grade math (pre-algebra and algebra).

The successful candidate will get students doing science. We practice our progressive school values through a hands-on approach to learning, engaging students in the study of science through real-world applications. Kids are on their feet, working in groups, creatively problem solving, and exercising the skills of active learning. They take nature walks, study the creek that runs through our property, build and launch rockets, participate in a disease outbreak simulation, and design disaster-proof houses. Green Acres has embraced the maker movement, and our curriculum in Middle School engages students actively in coding, robotics, and 3D printing. Likewise, our science program promotes environmental stewardship through gardening projects, environmental exploration and study, and our certification as an MAEOE Green School. Altogether, we want to inspire students in every discipline and seek a science teacher whose creative approach to the real world will motivate kids to think and experiment scientifically, while also building a strong foundation of scientific thought and knowledge.

In line with our progressive school mission, the successful candidate as a math teacher will have an approach that cultivates a high degree of math fluency and problem solving, one that balances an established scope and sequence with interesting and engaging projects. We believe that students are most successful when their ability to “speak and write math” is cultivated alongside their ability to solve problems by showing their work. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how math creates models of our world and will incorporate that understanding by teaching math not just as abstract problems and theory, but also as it explains and illustrates the world around us.

Across areas, the successful candidate will have the capacity to meet the needs of a range of learners in a relatively heterogeneous setting. Moreover, the teacher will have an approach to each discipline that encourages deep knowledge and conceptual fluency.

The candidate may serve as a student advisor, mentoring students in social-emotional learning and acting as a liaison between advisee families and the school. The teacher will be asked to accompany students as a chaperone on overnight trips of 3-5 days once a year.

Requirements:

Green Acres seeks an experienced classroom teacher with a background in curricular and pedagogical innovation and teaching experience relevant to this position. The successful candidate will possess the following capacities: a sincere love of working with tweens, a passion for math and science, a love of teaching, curiosity and a growth mindset, the ability to provide differentiated instruction, and an interest in integrating technology into the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

School Counselor

Summary description:

Green Acres School is seeking an experienced full-time counselor to work with students in pre-k–8th grade. The school counselor provides counseling services to individuals and groups of students in a safe and welcoming environment. The counselor acts as a consultant to parents, teachers, and administrators.

Responsibilities:

Provide individual counseling on an as-needed basis and make recommendations for outside mental health and therapeutic support when necessary.
Identify students in need, assess their level of need, refer to appropriate services, and follow up to monitor student’s response to interventions.
Provide crisis assessment and management for students and collaborate with community mental health providers.
Create lessons and teach developmentally and age-appropriate social-emotional learning (SEL) classes.
Understand child mandated-reporting laws and report to child protective services concerns of child abuse and neglect.
Consult and collaborate with parents, guardians, and outside treatment providers.
Meet regularly with grade level teams and the student support teams (SST) to address student concerns and implement a plan of action for students, parents, teachers, and outside professionals.
Carry out the institutional goals for supporting student wellness, social-emotional learning, and mental health.
Work with teachers, learning resource specialists, and administrators to address concerns regarding the academic, social, and emotional welfare of students.

Required skills and qualities:

Master’s degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, or related field
Experience providing counseling services to young students in a school setting
Possess a deep knowledge of child development and expertise in social-emotional learning strategies
Demonstrate the ability to implement evidence-based counseling practices and interventions that support students' emotional, social, and academic growth
Be skilled in delivering engaging classroom lessons on social-emotional topics and character education
Show a commitment to collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families to promote student well-being
Exhibit flexibility, patience, empathy, and a nurturing demeanor
Demonstrate cultural competency and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and racial justice
Possess a desire for ongoing professional growth and development

Desirable qualifications:

Relevant licensure or certification
Experience working in a school environment, preferably pre-k–8th grade

Substitute Teacher

Green Acres School is seeking substitute teachers during the school day and after school.

Subject areas for school-day substituting include language arts, humanities, math, science, Spanish, social studies, PE, technology, and the arts (music, studio art, ceramics, photography, drama, and creative movement).

After school, substitutes are needed in the school's PM Care program, which operates from 3–6 PM. Assignments range from 1–8 hours in a day and may cover more than one academic area or grade level. A full school day is 8 AM–3 PM. Paid training is provided.

Requirements:

Teaching experience.
Bachelor's degree. (A bachelor's degree may not be required to substitute in the PM Care program, depending upon the candidate's experience.)
