Transportation

Bus Transportation

Green Acres School strives to maintain a bus service for families who live within a reasonable distance of the School. The School and its contractors operate all buses with maximum concern for the safety and comfort of the students.

Bus Routing

The Head of School and the Transportation Director write the routes in consultation with the contracted bus companies. Before finalizing a route we assess many factors, including bus size, traffic patterns and regulations, safety of bus stops, and accessibility to families. To keep rides as short and efficient as possible, we use community stops on all routes. We cannot promise specific stop locations. In some cases, parents will have to drive, or have a student ride public transportation, to a central location. Routes are not guaranteed to remain the same each year.

Carpool Policy

In our effort to reduce air pollution and traffic in the School’s neighborhood and to comply with zoning requirements imposed by the Montgomery County Board of Appeals, the School Board has implemented the following policy:

In the afternoon, regular school bus service, carpools, and Extended Day are the only options. All students leaving after school must ride in a carpool of three students or more or ride a bus. Single-student pick-ups are not allowed in the afternoon, with the exception of students who must travel in car seats according to state law. However, these families are encouraged to comply with the carpool policy to the extent possible.
