What do we mean by an Intentional Model?Pre-K
Most children begin their education at Green Acres in a small and intimate Pre-K setting. In Pre-K, play is largely the work of school. Students explore and experiment with a variety of materials and activities in small groups. Our Pre-K teachers construct activities that invite young students to test possibilities. Students dictate group stories about shared experiences, play organized math games, act out favorite stories, and explore geometric shapes, symmetry, and patterns. Extensive time outdoors helps to channel energy, hone motor skills, stimulate imagination, and support friendships.
Pre-K students work and play in sophisticated ways for their young age. They plan projects before they begin, and they elaborate on topics of interest for days at a time. The familiar and the exotic - animal babies, oceans, space, birds, recycling, and dinosaurs - spark their interest.
During the Pre-K year, we acknowledge students’ steps toward independence and encourage their enthusiasm. We enjoy their sense of humor and help them to develop an awareness of and sensitivity to each other’s needs and feelings. Ever paramount is our commitment to educating the whole child as we focus on each student’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs and growth.
