Rose Mary's Obituary
Rose Mary Volkmer, 83, of Rockville, passed away July 21, 2012 at Casey House following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 27, 1928 in Wright County, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Zelda Mary Martin and late Millard Martin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Merle Martin, and son-in-law John W. (Jack) Cole.
A graduate of the University of Iowa, she married and moved to Maryland in the early ‘50s. She enjoyed camping, boating, and numerous summer vacations at the family beach house. She was a talented seamstress with a passion for collecting copper kitchenware, and an unrivaled determination to decorate her home for all seasons in spite of the weather and local wildlife. She loved dining out with friends and family. Employed at Green Acres School from 1970 until this past spring, Rose Mary’s familiar presence at the front desk will be missed by the extended family of staff, students, alumni, and parents who make up that unique community she so loved.
She is survived by her children, Linn K. Cole of Charlotte Hall and James E. Volkmer of Rockville; their father, Eldon A. Volkmer of Melbourne, FL; granddaughter, Brittany W. Volkmer of Rockville, and four nieces.
A service to celebrate her life will take place at 3:00 pm on August 25, 2012 at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 10701 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, followed by memory sharing and refreshments in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the annual fund at Green Acres School, 11701 Danville Drive, Rockville, MD 20852.
