Junior Camp (Units A-D)
The Junior Camp program is one six week session offered from June 21 - July 29, 2010.
In our relaxed environment, junior campers delight in having the freedom to pursue a special interest, as well as the opportunity to develop a new one. Activities are chosen on a daily basis - some days campers choose the activities and on other days, counselors choose to ensure campers expand their interests. The activities are developmentally appropriate and, at times, may be generated from the campers’ suggestions, interests, and experiences. The highlight of the summer for each unit is their Special Day when the activities revolve around a particular theme and Units B & C even stay late on campus.
Unit D: Unit D has a unique role at Green Acres as the bridge between Junior Camp and Senior Camp. It combines features of both programs to facilitate the transition. The campers stay within their unit for two morning activities and join the senior campers for two afternoon workshops every day. While the morning activities are similar to those offered in Units A-C, Unit D’s program includes two activity periods for extensive study choices in woodworking, art, science, sports, dance or drama. Every afternoon, Unit D campers choose workshops with the senior campers. With up to twelve different activities for each one hour workshop, there are many challenging possibilities. In order to prepare campers for the senior camp overnights, Unit D has a special overnight adventure at Green Acres. Swimming and special activities in the late afternoon are followed by dinner and an overnight in the All Purpose Room.
Campers bring a lunch daily and we provide a healthy snack, milk and water to drink. The lunches are not refrigerated. We also offer the Health-e-Lunch Kids program for those of you who want to avoid the hassle of packing a lunch everyday for your camper. They offer hot and cold nutritious menu choices and the convenience of ordering from your own computer. Their prices and quality are a pretty good deal. For more information, go to the Health-e-Lunch Kids website and check it out! Orders may be placed beginning in June.
