Governance

Green Acres School is an independent, nonprofit corporation. The Head of School, parents (or legal guardians) of Green Acres students, Trustees, and employees of Green Acres are voting members of the corporation. The successful education and development of our students depends upon everyone’s active participation in the School, including their commitment to the School’s mission, core values, and policies, and their support of the School’s staff and program.

The Head of School and Board of Trustees are responsible for overall stewardship of the School. They work separately and together to make sure that Green Acres School operates smoothly and in accordance with its mission. The Head of School is the chief educational and administrative officer of Green Acres.

The Board comprises approximately 20 volunteer Trustees: the Head of School; three staff members elected by their peers; and other members, many of whom are parent members of the corporation. Four Trustees and the Head of School serve as the Board’s executive officers. All members of the Green Acres School Corporation are invited to attend Board meetings, to serve on many Board committees, and to communicate directly with the Board.

The Board focuses on three areas critical to the success of Green Acres:

  • The Board selects, evaluates, and supports the Head, to whom it delegates authority to manage the School.
  • The Board develops broad institutional policies that guide the Head in running the School.
  • The Board is accountable for the financial well-being of the School.
