Community
Green Acres School was founded by parents and teachers working together and has thrived on their mutual commitment to education. A spirit of cooperation and partnership is central to the Green Acres School community of parents, students, and professional staff. Each parent and staff member is a voting member of the Corporation, which establishes governing policies, and together they elect the members of our Board of Trustees. Our Board members - primarily parents and teachers - volunteer time, energy, and creativity to ensure the continued success of Green Acres. Beyond the work of the Board, parent volunteers spend many hours contributing to our community by planning and carrying out a variety of projects and special events. An active Parents’ Association works in conjunction with the Board and the School staff to reach out to new parents, demonstrate appreciation for teachers, and provide a rich array of educational programs and social opportunities for all parents.
Community is developed among the student body to foster a sense of self and belonging where trust and mutual respect are valued. In classrooms, teachers and students work collaboratively to create a safe learning environment. The social curriculum strongly emphasizes inclusion, give-and-take, cooperation, and conflict resolution, thereby nurturing a sense of community.
