Camp Programs
The spirit of Green Acres Summer Day Camp is best exemplified by our morning Gully. As the carpools and buses arrive, the guitars warm up, the singing begins, and the vibrant sounds of children’s voices fill the air as junior campers greet one another in song. Skits are planned and performed, birthday greetings are given and special events and activities are shared. Gully starts the day on a bright note with a spirit of enthusiasm, humor and camaraderie. Senior Camp goes directly to homeroom where they check in, greet one another and use the time to participate in the planning of their activities and trips.
At Camp, we value children’s natural curiosity. The camp day is a blend of indoor and outdoor activities and of structure and free choice, with activities in art, drama, swimming, cooking, dance, music, sports, computers, science and woodworking. Senior campers can also choose digital photo, virtual DJ, filmmaking, step and the news show. Numerous special performances and assemblies on campus complement these activities. Older campers enjoy an exciting schedule of day trips and overnights. Summer highlights include the traditional Fourth of July Parade, Senior Camp Olympics, Spirit Days, and the Staff Vaudeville Show.
Our qualified and enthusiastic staff is committed to making each child’s camp experience a special one. We group campers according to their grade in school. There are a total of 320 campers and each homeroom has 15 to 17 campers. Homerooms have one teacher, one college student and one high school student. With an overall ratio of one instructional staff member to every seven children, there truly is an opportunity for us to get to know each camper. Because of our staff, Green Acres Camp is a unique, warm and inviting place where children quickly feel at home. The staff members are selected not only for their ability to direct activities, but also for their enthusiasm which inspires all our campers to get involved!
