Financial Aid

Throughout its history, Green Acres School has encouraged enrollment of a diverse student community. As part of that effort, our financial aid program is designed to assist families with financial need by covering a part of the cost of tuition and other expenses at the School. We urge every family to consider applying for aid; often even a small grant will make a difference. To that end, we send financial aid information and application materials to all of our applicant families. The financial aid program is funded by the special contributions of parents and friends, by Annual Giving donations, and by money budgeted in the School’s operating fund. Some students also receive grants from the Washington Scholarship Fund, the Black Student Fund, or the Latino Student Fund.

At Green Acres School, the financial aid process is a function of our Business Office rather than our Admission Office, to support our policy of separating the two processes. Admission decisions are made first by an Admission Committee without regard to financial aid applications. After admission decisions are made, grants are determined for qualifying families by a Financial Aid Committee, which comprises the Head of School and Business Office staff members.

To ensure objectivity, Green Acres School subscribes to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, NJ. This service requires parents to send a Parents’ Financial Statement with a small application fee. Based on the Parents’ Financial Statement, SSS considers total income, assets, number of dependents, age of parents, retirement provisions, and extraordinary expenses to calculate a family’s discretionary income. A Green Acres School Financial Aid Request Form and a current year Federal Tax Return also must be submitted directly to the School. Families seeking financial aid must re-apply for financial aid each year.
